Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. Some are essential - without them you cannot stay signed in. Others are optional and we only set them if you allow us to.

We also use a small amount of browser storage (localStorage / sessionStorage) purely to remember interface state - for example that you already dismissed a tooltip or a promotional dialog. This never leaves your device and is not used to track you.

The first time you visit ABTalks, we present our cookie banner with three straightforward options:

Strictly necessary cookies cannot be switched off - they are required to authenticate your sign-in and keep your session secure. Choosing Necessary only does not reduce your access to any core learning track, submission, or challenge feature; it only means we cannot credit referral invites or measure aggregated platform usage.

These cookies are essential for the website to function securely and cannot be switched off:

Auth.js session cookie: Keeps you securely signed in to your account (httpOnly, inaccessible to client scripts).
abtalks_consent: Remembers your cookie preferences and policy version (~180 days).

Optional: Analytics & Performance

Google Analytics 4: Measures aggregate, de-identified platform usage (page views, button clicks, enrollments). GA4 runs only in production and only with your explicit analytics consent. All IP addresses are anonymized and no personal data (email, phone, name) is sent.

Optional: Referral Attribution & Media

abtalks_ref: Remembers referral codes from ?ref= links so members who invited you receive credit (~7 days).
abtalks_src: First-touch attribution from ?s= links to understand which educational partner brought you here (~30 days).
YouTube Media Previews: Enables preview thumbnails from youtube-nocookie.com on program video libraries.

4. Third-party scripts and embeds

Phone verification (MSG91). When you use phone/OTP verification, your browser loads a widget script from verify.msg91.com. That provider may set its own cookies or storage under its own domain, governed by its own privacy policy. The script loads only at the moment you use phone verification - never on initial page load.
Video embeds (YouTube). All videos use the privacy-extended youtube-nocookie.com domain, which does not set advertising cookies.
- On program mission pages and the video library, videos are click-to-load. We show a placeholder and request nothing from Google until you press play. Video preview thumbnails are fetched only if you grant Attribution & Media consent (or choose Accept all).
- On challenge day pages, the tutorial player loads together with the page, so Google is contacted when you open that page. We disclose this transparently; if you prefer not to connect to Google, avoid opening tutorial video pages.
Google Analytics 4. We use GA4 solely to measure aggregate usage of the Service. GA4 loads only on the production Service and only when Analytics consent is enabled. If you choose Necessary only, or before you have made a choice, the script is blocked entirely and no request is made to any Google endpoint (googletagmanager.com or google-analytics.com). When consent is partial, Google Consent Mode v2 denies ad-storage and ad-personalization signals. Data is retained for 14 months. Changing your preferences from enabled to Necessary only unloads the script immediately for future interactions.

5. What we do not do

We do not sell personal data. We do not use Meta Pixel, cross-site advertising networks, third-party data brokers, or behavioural tracking cookies. If our integrations ever change, we will update this Policy and require fresh consent before enabling any new category.
